The plant behind the oil

The lemon-scented eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora, formerly Eucalyptus citriodora) is a slender tree in the Myrtaceae family, reaching heights of 25 to 40 meters. It is characterized by its straight trunk with smooth, whitish to pale gray bark that peels off in plates, and by its narrow, elongated, evergreen foliage. When its leaves are crushed, they release a very distinctive, fresh, lemony scent.

Native to Australia, this eucalyptus thrives in warm, humid regions with deep, well-drained soil. It is often cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas for its wood, its ornamental appearance, and especially for its essential oil, which is rich in citronellal. It requires a sunny location and a frost-free climate to flourish.
